(As Long As We Remember)

While HIV/AIDS is often remembered as a medical crisis, it also transformed society. It exposed fear, stigma, and exclusion, but it also inspired care, resistance, and collective action. As the epidemic has faded from public attention, many of these stories and the achievements that emerged from them risk being forgotten.
Inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilts, the installation translates historical research into a contemporary textile artwork. Through embroidery, illustration, text, and interactive elements, it invites visitors to engage with the people who cared for one another, fought for visibility and equal rights, and shaped lasting social change.
The installation consists of an outer and an inner textile layer. The outer layer presents key milestones and collective achievements of the HIV/AIDS movement. The inner layer offers a more intimate space with personal questions and contextualized stories, connecting public history with individual experience.
Developed in collaboration with AIDS-Hilfe Schweiz, historians, and people who experienced the epidemic firsthand, the project combines research, illustration, and installation into an accessible form of storytelling. Rather than focusing only on loss, As Long as We Remember highlights resilience, solidarity, and hope. It asks what these stories can still teach us today and why remembering them continues to matter.
